Back to school

For many teens, the first day of Back to school is an extremely important event. Many set goals for the new school year and revamp their style. Chances are your teen clients are already thinking about how they can make the best first impression possible.

You can help them achieve at least one part of their goal by helping them put their best face forward. This can be done through a series of express treatments specifically geared towards teens, a very simple home care regimen, and by educating them on how to maintain clear, healthy skin all year long.

In the Treatment Room

The Teen Express is always a favorite. It’s a quick, yet effective 30-minute treatment that provides a deep cleanse, a mild exfoliation, and healing and calming properties for more glowing skin.

The treatment begins with the Beta Green Tea Cleanser, which has salicylic acid to exfoliate cells from the inside out and reduce surface bacteria. The enzyme application – the Pepsin & Papain Enzyme – will continue the work, softening the cells and comedones, reducing redness and swelling, and digesting dead cells. The Rosemary Basil Mask will boost the effects of the enzyme, while providing healing and calming properties, giving the skin a vibrant appearance.

The Mandelic Arginine Serum in the finish will provide gentle rejuvenation and deliver a potent dose of antioxidants and amino acids to the skin, accelerating wound healing and promoting collagen production.

For skin in need of some summer relief, the Summer Recovery treatmentwill infuse skin with essential hydration. It begins with the Citrus Gel Cleanser followed by an application of the 20% L-Lactic Acid to regenerate and hydrate. Next the Goats Milk Peeling Cream softens the skin and removes dead cells, leaving it polished and supple. Omega 6 EFA massaged into the skin will nourish the skin and provide antioxidant and antibacterial support. The Honey Paprika Mask will further soften and rehydrate the skin leaving it glowing, supple and smooth.

Home Care for Teens

According to the American Dermatologist Association nearly 85 percent of teens battle acne. So for those clients with acne or acne-prone skin aBlemish Skin System including salicylic acid will typically be very effective. Of course you will have to assess what their needs are, but an easy skin system for teens might include:

For more general skin health and maintenance I like to start them on a regimen of Citrus Gel Cleanser, Purifying Lotion and Clarifying Beads. Both of these can also be paired with All Purpose Cleansing Pads for quick cleansing, Aloe Matte Moisturizer and some form of protection like the Daytime Defense SPF 30 or eZinc Protection Cream. For teens of the male persuasion, I would provide them a simple regimen including the Zeo Cleanse, Ctrl.Halt.Del. cleansing pads and EnviroProtect. You might also introduce them to the Buffed granular scrub.

Remember, when working with teens (especially male teens) the key is to focus on keeping it simple, but it’s equally important to teach them proper cleansing – this is the foundation of skin health.
